Smart contact lenses to help Diabetes sufferers

Microsoft Research is finalising work on smart contact lenses that can measure glucose levels found in the tear film of the eyes.

Sufferers of Type 1 diabetes have to monitor their blood sugar levels several times a day by piercing the skin with a spring-loaded needle. Microsoft is hoping that the smart contact lenses, an example of Natural User Interface (NUI), will make glucose-monitoring a painless and efficient process.
